The Hooters restaurant chain has a $200 check ready for FEMA. It s reimbursement for a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne bought with Hurricane Katrina relief money.FEMA will be happy to have the money back. The champagne, purchased in San Antonio, was among numerous examples of improper spending of hurricane relief money cited earlier this week by Congress Governmen stanley kubek t Accountability Office. The bogus spending could be as high as $1.4 billion, the GAO said. It bothers me as an American that resources that were intended to help victims of this tremendous tragedy were spent this way, Hooters chairman Bob Brooks said in an announcement from Atlanta. Even if it s in my restaurants, it s still not right. If FEMA will let me know where to send the check I ll get the $200 out right stanley cups away. FEMA spokesman Aaron Walker responded, We will more than welcome the check from Hooters and appreciate their recognition in helping true disaster victims. Following Katrina, Brooks sent one of his Hooters Air 737s loaded with supplies into the Gulf Coast disaster area. The restaurant chain also donated $225,000 to the Red Cross Katrina relief fund.Walker said the check for the champagne should be made out to the U.S. Government-FEMA.Here s the address, Mr. Brooks:Office of the FEMA director500 C St. SWWashington DC 20472 stanley cup ponent--type-recirculation .item:nth-child 5 { display: Kjml Megan s Law Notifications Resumed
I love it. I think it s the best trail around, said bicyclist Chuck Anderson.Chuck Anderson spends five days a week biking the Courtney Campbell Causeway recreational trail, even when the white caps are rolling in. I don t have to mix it up with any cars and if anything did freaky happen, there s help right there at the highway right, said Anderson. The Pinellas trail ends on the Tampa side but transportation advocates want to change that. These trails sort ve form the backbone of more integrated bike and pedestrian non-motorized system, said Wade Reynolds with the Metropolitan Planning Organization. Close the Gaps is a pitch to connect already existing greenways and trails in Hillsborough County to the rest of the state. Getting the Courtney Campbell Causeway to the Tampa Riverwalk. So there s two gaps there-- there s really the Westshore gap and the West Tampa gap, yeezy slide said Anthony Matonti, TBARTA Senior Planner. The rest would adidas campus homme connect the South County Greenway down to the Manatee County line and carve out a trail north to adidas samba the Tampa Bypass Canal up to Pasco County. We re just now waking up that bikes are more than recreation, said Dale Allen.State funding approved by voters in 2014 will help but Hillsborough County s taking a look at those gaps and how much money it ll take to connect them. Oh I m in favor of that. At least my tax dollars would go for something I like to do, said Anderson.
