Editor s note: Following the publication of this story, Freshta s family was evacuated from Afghanistan by U.S. officials. As of Wedne stanley cups uk sday, the family was in Doha, Qatar awaiting U.S. processing, according to Freshta, who called their evacuation a miracle. Freshta, a college student in Michigan who was granted U.S. asylum after leaving Afghanistan as a teenager, is terrified that her family could be harmed by the Taliban, which has taken over the country. The 22-year-old U.S. resident said her family members stranded in Afghanistan are in danger of being persecuted by Taliban hardliners because they are members of the country s Hazara ethnic minority, which has been oppressed for decades. Her brother-in-law also assisted U.S. military forces during the 20-year war against the Taliban, and he has applied for a special visa for Afghans who helped the U.S. Freshta said her family is currently in hiding, waiting for a chance to be airlift stanley cup ed by the U.S. forces that control Kabul s Hamid Karzai International Airport, the last area of the capital that is not under Taliban rule. They include her mother, sister, brother-in-l stanley uk aw and four young nieces and nephews, the youngest of whom is five years old.But Freshta said her family members were stopped when they tried to reach the airport. She said they fear they could be attacked by Taliban security forces at checkpoints that have been set up in Kabul if they try again. I m very afraid for th Kpkx Biden to tap former police chief to lead CBP and former NSA official to head cybersecurity agency
THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY....Over the past few days there s been a huge fracas over accusations that Hillary Clinton s campaign deliberately darkened Barack Obama s face in an ad they ran in Texas. It started with a post over at Daily Kos on Tuesday and has been spread far and wide since then. The problem is that it s impossible to compare color tones using YouTube clips because their compression process doesn t preserve color fidelity. However, FactCheck.org got hold of a high-quality recording of the ad as it appeared on station KCEN in Waco, Texas, and then compared it to MSNBC s streaming version of the debate from which the clip was taken. Here it is the ad is on the left, the original debate is on the right : In the ad version, Obama s face has been desaturated i.e., there s less color tone but it doesn t look any darker than the original. Nor has his face been widened to make Obama s nose more prominent, as the original posters also suggested. That was yet another YouTube artifact.Darkening images is fairly standard practice in attack ad garrafa stanley s, and FactCheck suggests that the Clinton campaign may have done it here. But if they did, it s pretty damn subtle when you compare the original source material instead of stuff that s been sent through the YouTube mill. stanley kubek Hillary Clinton is running a rough campaign, and I m pretty unhappy with some of her tactics, but that s no reason to start hauling stanley cup out all the old Clinton-hating arti
