DENVER -- As the city grows, there are growing pains that come with the development, the construction 鈥?and in the cases of I-70 and the National Western Complexs expansion 鈥?the businesses and families that have to move out.Plans for the future National Western Center are moving right along, with the city of Denver officially taking over the land needed to build it into a bigger and better entertainment and education venue. There s at least one business that remains along Brighton Blvd between 47th and Race Court, the area acquired by the city.Denver7 spoke with Brian Ruden, the owner of the Starbuds Marijuana Dispensary, about his hope for the future. His neon green Open sign is seen from the street. So this here on the corner was a grocery store. Obviously that s all boarded up, said Ruden. There s little more telling than the corner of Brighton Blvd and 47th Ave, where Rudens business is located. The communities like Elyria-Swansea and Globeville have been hit hard as the city moves forward with plans to expand the yeezy National Western Complex and I-70. Starbuds is really the only business on the block that s open right now and still thriving. It s like being on an island. Stephon Clark, an unarmed black man who was killed by police back in March, was shot seven times, according to an autopsyreleased by the Sacramento County coroner. It says three of the bullets struck Clark in the back, three hit him in the side, and the other hit him on his left thigh. Those findingsare differentfrom a private autopsy conducted by Dr. Bennet Omal air force 1 u, who was hired by Clark s family. His autopsy said Clark was shot eight times, six of which hit him in the back.Because the two autopsies differed, the county coroner s office says it had four pathologists review its findings before releasing them to police. It also had one of those pathologists look at the private autopsy, and he concluded Omalumistook one exit woundfor an entrance wound. The pathologist did not look at Clark s body.Clark was killed by police while he was in the backyard of his grandmother s home. Police said they thought a cellphone in his hand was a gun.A toxicology report released by police said Clark had traces of nicotine, cannabis and hydrocodone af1 in his system. While speaking toThe Sacramento Bee, Omalu rejected the county s autopsy results, saying, A doctor cannot say another doctor is wrong. All you can say is, I don t agree with the opinion of that doctor.
