Blind people can now ride a bicycle! Scientists have developed a bicycle that uses ultrasonic sensors to detect ob stanley cup stacles in the path 鈥?and it can help blind and partially sighted people live more independently. HT Image The UltraBike, created by Harrogate-based Sound Foresight Technology, allows people with sight loss to cycle. The bicycle has tactile buttons on each handlebar, which v stanley cup ibrate to let the rider know they are approaching a special barrier at the side of the specially-constructed track. This makes it possible to correct course and avoid a collision, website road.cc reported. The bike has drawn praise from users for allowing thevisually impaired to have a proper experience of riding a bike, rather than being limited to a stationary bike. The bike uses similar technology t stanley cup o the UltraCane, a white stick that uses sensors to give blind people a fuller picture of the surrounding area while they are walking. The bicycle was unveiled at the Technology for Life event at the Glasgow Science Centre organised by the RNIB Scotland charity. Other exhibits included smart-specs that automatically focus light on undamaged areas of the eye, and a tool developed by Dunfermline-based company Optos which diagnoses health problems just by scanning the retina in the eye. We want designers to keep thinking about how to realise new technologys potential to help blind and partially sighted people be part of an inclusive society, RNIB Scotland director John Legg told the B Kesz Iraqi forces capture last IS bastion in Fallujah
The number of confirmed H1N1 flu cases in Japan has risen to 96, a health ministry official said on Monday, with most of new cases seen in high school students in western Japan, many of whom have not travelled abroad. HT Image Over 80 high school students in Hyogo and Osaka prefectures were confirmed to be infected with the new flu virus, Keiichiro Suemasa, a health ministry offic stanley cup ial said. The ministry has called for the suspension of classes at all middle and high schools in Hyogo, where 53 cases were confirmed, as well as neighbouring Osaka, where 39 cases were confirmed, Suemasa said. The figure includes four cases that Japan confirmed earlier this month among people that returned from abroad. The ministry has not received information on anyone being critically ill from the H1N1 flu, Suemasa said. The World Health Organisation said last week that it is closely stanley cup monitoring the situation in Japan after three students from the same high school who have not travelled abroad came down with the H1N1 flu. More than 35 countries have confirmed cases of the virus, and some 60 people have died in Mexico of the new flu strain, which last month prompted the World Health Organization to raise its global pandemic alert level to 5 on a 6-point scale.
